Every book is a blind date.
You choose by vibe, and the title stays hidden until the book is in your hands.
Sign in to list or swap - browsing and buying are open to everyone.
Great things happen when you open yourself up to the unexpected
It’s easier than ever to get algorithm recommendations for books. Books feel extra special when they’re recommended or gifted by a fellow reader.
I wanted to recreate that feeling here. Behind every listing is a person who spent time with the book: from reading it in quiet pockets of their day to thoughtfully wrapping and passing it on to another to enjoy.
Find your next date with a swipe.
Swipe through listings on your phone: swipe right on a book that catches your eye to start a match, swipe up to buy it outright. Swipe left to pass.
When two readers’ books pair up, you’ve got a match! Each side builds a cart, checks out, and confirms. You can unmatch at any time, and the other can still buy the book outright.
Swipe the deck
Every book only reveals a reader note from the lister: why they loved it, who it’s for.
Welcome a surprise with a familiar genre or try something new.
Buy it, swap for it, or wishlist it
Pay the listed price, list some of your books and swap, or add it to your wishlist for later.
When someone adds one of your books to their wishlist, you’ll match and can start a swap.
Read it already? If you’ve imported your Goodreads library, we’ll let you know when a book is already on your shelves.
Unwrap your date
Your book arrives wrapped - enjoy the surprise!
Talk about it
Every book can have its own book board, open to everyone. Share what you thought and connect with others who’ve read it, or start a board for a book you love.

List in minutes
Scan the barcode or search the title. Grade the condition. Add your personal touch: what you enjoyed about the book, who it’s for. Every book you list can be bought outright, and every book can be matched for a swap — there is no buy-or-swap choice to make at listing time.
It’s placed on your shelf
Your book only reveals your reader note to the reader. The cover is hidden from them until they unwrap it. (No peeking!)
It sells, or swaps
A reader buys it, or offers you to browse their shelf for a book that catches your eye.
Ship it, get paid
Wrap your book and drop off the parcel. We give you a label: print it, or show the QR code and let the post office print it for you.
You keep 100% of the book price.
You’re paid 3 days after delivery, once the reader’s claim window has passed.
Who doesn’t love opening presents?
Titles, authors, and covers stay hidden until you unwrap your book — the reveal unmasks them when you confirm you’ve received it.
We never spoil the surprise, not even in your inbox.
No hidden fees ever
Book price + 12% + shipping
Every book costs half its cover price, adjusted for condition — up to $15.00, since cover prices above $30 count as $30. Add the 12% platform fee ($2 minimum per order), shipping, and tax. Shipping is per seller - books from the same shelf ship together.
100% of the book price
Listing is free. When your book sells, the buyer covers the platform fee and shipping, so you keep the listed price.
$2 flat, postage each way
Each swap has a $2 platform fee, and each side pays its own postage. Swaps are one book for one book.
What would your book earn?
Enter the cover price and let us price the book for you.
Half the cover price, adjusted for condition, rounded to the nearest 50¢ — up to $15.00. Cover prices above $30 count as $30. That full amount is yours.
Where the fee goes: it pays for labels, payments, and running the site. It costs nothing to browse or to list a book.
A note from Amanda.
When I think about my favorite books, many of them were a gift or recommendation from a loved one or a serendipitous discovery on a bookstore shelf.
I built Second Date to bring together the values I hold dear, supporting local and finding preloved things a happy home, with my love for books and sharing it with others.
I hope you find some new favorites, and maybe fall in love with something unexpected along the way.
— Amanda
First time?
These are the questions everyone asks before their first blind date. Don’t see your question here? Send me a note!
When do I find out what book I got?
When you unwrap it! Titles, authors, and covers stay hidden until the book is in your hands — the reveal unmasks them when you confirm you’ve received it.
What if I don’t like my book?
List it as your own blind date and give it a second date. That’s the whole idea.
What if I get a book I’ve already read?
Import your Goodreads library and we’ll warn you before you buy a book that matches one you’ve already read. We never reveal the title, so you keep the mystery.
What if my book arrives damaged?
Every purchase is covered by The Second Date Promise — no catfishing, no ghosting. You have 3 days after delivery to open a claim. If the book was misgraded, the seller funds the refund. If your book never shows up, you can open a claim for that too.
Will my book come with any extras?
No. A lot of blind date books come with tea, stickers, or pens tucked in. We ship by USPS Media Mail to keep shipping low, and Media Mail only allows the book itself plus a little paper - a short note or a paper bookmark can ride along, but extras can’t. The surprise is the book.
How do swaps work?
Swaps are when you match: you and another reader both swipe right on each other’s books, and you each mail your book.
Swaps are one book for one book. The swap fee is $2 flat, and each side pays its own postage.
Extra books beyond the swap pair are purchased outright at their listing price.
How is the price decided?
Every book costs half its cover price, adjusted for condition: Like New, Good, or Acceptable — up to $15.00, since cover prices above $30 count as $30. You never worry about prices, leave that to us.
Where does my money go?
The book price goes to the seller in full. The platform fee pays for labels, payments, and running the site.
Is there a minimum?
Buying from one shelf needs to total at least $10 — if a book is under $10, add another from the same lister. There is no minimum on a matched swap.
Is this only for romance novels?
No! Mysteries, memoirs, sci-fi, cookbooks: any used book can go on a blind date. If you loved it (or even if not!), someone else will.
